BSA Scouting Program

aboard USS SLATER

This spring’s Scouting Program

will focus on the

American Heritage Merit Badge.

Aboard SLATER you will have the opportunity to:

  1. Interview a political leader and private citizen about their contributions to American Heritage.

  2. Interview veterans about their experiences and what they believe they accomplished during their military service.

  3. Discover how USS SLATER became a National Historic Landmark and tour the ship.

  4. Listen to songs from American History and reflect how people felt during each time period.

  5. Ask USS SLATER Museum Staff what their job entails and how they like working in American Heritage.

Arrive Prepared:

Make sure you take care of your pre-requirements before you arrive!

Dress for the weather. You will participate in a tour of the ship, half of that tour is outside. Wear close-toed shoes that are safe to climb ladders while wearing.

As part of the requirements for your American Heritage Merit Badge you will have the opportunity to interview political leaders, community leaders, veterans, and USS SLATER museum staff. Have your questions prepared.
